For the first time in the history of the Rochester (NY) Deaf Community, Foodlink has partnered with us to establish a farm stand to be run by Deaf and hearing people with ASL skills. The goal of this Farm Stand Program is to bring wholesome (healthy) and affordable produce (vegetables and fruits) to city residents who may not have easy access to healthy foods. Please tell your family and friends to visit the farm stand at Rochester Recreation Club for the Deaf (1564 Lyell Avenue) every Saturday morning, 9 am to 12 noon July 7 through August 25.

The ASL/Foodlink stand will accept many forms of payment, including cash, debit cards, credit cards (VISA or MC) or food stamps. This unique Farm Stand program supports local farms and was made possible by grants from New York’s Fresh Connect Program, the H.E.A.R.T program from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Foodlink, Inc.
Deaf organizations participating in this Farm Stand program include: Rochester Recreation Club for the Deaf, Rochester School for the Deaf, The Deaf program at the Center for Disability Rights and Deaf Health Community Committee.

Because this is the first time the Deaf community is involved in running this Farm Stand Program, we plan to first order small amounts of fruits and vegetables for July 7 and increase the amount and selections based on the number of people who come to the farm stand and express their interest.

Again, spread the word among friends and family for wholesome and affordable vegetables and fruits!
